Storage helps the UK stay cool

Transmec UK is providing a logistical boost to the country’s efforts to deal with extreme temperatures.

Its Midlands warehouses, which already store energy-efficient boilers and heat pumps, are helping meet the fast-growing demand for air conditioning.

“The incredibly hot summer of 2026 led to people taking action to stay cool. Air con stock was snapped up and lead times rose very rapidly,” explained country manager Daniel Holmes.

“The response from the air-con manufacturers has been to increase output and send more units to the UK, which has created a need for flexible storage and delivery.

“A lot of the new batches of units will be required to fulfil existing orders, but others will be stored until the warmer weather arrives and prompts a new wave of demand. We’re certainly doing our best to help avoid a shortage if summer 2027 is anything like its predecessor!”

Transmec’s capability has been boosted by a recent expansion of its Worcester warehouse from 110,000 to 146,000 sq ft (10,200 sq m to 13,600 sq m).

“The Worcester hub is only 20 miles from our facility at Redditch. The two teams work together extremely closely and the ability to move goods from one warehouse to the other provides additional flexibility,” Daniel added.

Transmec’s UK warehousing capacity stands at more than 500,000 sq ft (46,500 sq m), which is spread across further branches at London Gateway and Bradford. All are within minutes of the motorway network.

In addition to providing long- and short-term storage for clients across multiple sectors, the warehouses also support a wide range of logistics activity, including just-in-time deliveries nationwide.
