Biggest ever sea freight project for Transmec India
Tenacity and attention to detail enabled Transmec India to successfully overcome geopolitical challenges and complete its largest-ever sea freight project.
Members of the Mumbai team arranged the passage of chemical plant equipment totalling 3,000 cbm / 636 tonnes on a breakbulk vessel from the city’s port, bound for Alexandria, Egypt.
Given the restricted availability of vessels, especially those handling breakbulk, the project took weeks of planning, led by regional manager Leslie Rebello.
Transmec India’s managing director, Anil Malhotra, explained: “The project was carried out for a long-standing customer.
“Given the geopolitical situation in our region, the greatest challenge was identifying and booking a suitable ship. Leslie did a great job and was able to source a vessel after weeks of searching.”
But the challenges didn’t end there, as congestion in the Gulf of Oman delayed the ship's arrival for a month.
Anil added: “The customer, whom we have worked with for almost 15 years, was continuously updated by the team and was always aware of the latest situation.
“When loading did take place, the team was at Mumbai port to oversee it and ensure everything went smoothly.”
