A cup of kindness making mental health matter

Ahead of World Mental Health Day on 10th October, Transmec’s London Gateway branch took a meaningful step to highlight the importance of mental health alongside physical wellbeing.

In the fast-paced world of logistics, it is all too easy to let the days fly by without taking a breath.

Recognizing this, the team at London Gateway decided to hit pause and place employee wellbeing, open conversations, and genuine self-care right at the heart of the workplace.

The journey began with a simple but powerful message landing in everyone’s inbox, complemented by eye-catching displays around the branch.

To deepen the impact, Transmec shared an insightful guide from Mental Health UK, sparking meaningful conversations and equipping staff with the tools to spot early signs of poor mental health; whether in themselves, a colleague, or a loved one at home.

Of course, awareness is only half the picture, which is why the campaign also shone a spotlight on practical, round-the-clock support.

Employees were reminded of the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), accessible anytime via the Sage Benefits app for completely confidential 24/7 counselling and guidance whenever life gets a bit heavy.

Then came the favourite moment of the day: a warm, tangible touch that brought everyone together. Every team member at London Gateway was surprised with a "Cup of Kindness" voucher, good for a free hot drink at local neighbourhood favourite Hope Coffee.

The idea was delightfully simple: step away from the desk, grab a fresh brew, and just take a moment.

Whether colleagues used the time to share a laugh together, call a friend, or simply sit in quiet comfort to recharge, it served as a gentle reminder that even five minutes can make a world of difference.

The energy across the branch was vibrant, with team members embracing the gesture, taking a well-deserved breather, and sharing smiles and photos throughout the day.

Danielle Heijlond, HR Advisor at Transmec UK’s London Gateway Logistics Centre, reflected on the impact of the initiative:

“We recognise that employee wellbeing is an important part of creating a supportive workplace.

This initiative was a small but meaningful way to encourage open conversations about mental health, raise awareness of the support available, and remind everyone of the importance of taking time for themselves.”
