International medals are a dream come true for Izzy

Practice made perfect for Transmec UK-sponsored gymnast Izzy Jones, who celebrated a gold and silver medal in her very first event representing Team GB.

Participating in the Coimbra Gym Fest in Portugal, the 17-year-old tumbler wowed the judges to help secure a team gold, while achieving individual silver the following day.

She had a spectacular competition, achieving her dream of winning an international medal,” said Izzy’s mum, Clare.

It was her first international call-up as part of Team GB and she was very nervous, wanting to prove to everyone she deserved her place.”

In the team event, Izzy successfully completed two new runs, which had taken weeks of dedicated practice to perfect.

The first, a transition run, involved completing two double somersaults, one in the middle of the track and one at the end. The second was a full twisting double straight somersault.

Both runs went beautifully, scoring her highest mark to date and securing her first international gold with her two teammates,” Clare added.

"The following day, she competed in the seventeen-plus final against 23 tumblers from around the world. Completing the same runs, she brought home her first international individual GB medal, coming second overall.

She was so proud to be wearing the GB kit and the red, white and blue leotards that she never thought would be hers and is so happy with her performance abroad.

We are so grateful for all that Transmec does to support her.”
