Viva España! Customer demand drives expansion in Spain

Transmec’s operation in Spain is expanding with the opening of a new office, a major warehouse extension and the launch of a new groupage link with central Europe.

The branch in Valencia, the country’s main port, is the fourth run by Transmec De Bortoli Group (TDBG) in Spain; the others being in Madrid, Barcelona and Granada.

Run by a team of experienced freight forwarders, the office is initially focusing on overseas business, but will soon be ready to manage domestic and international road transport.

In central Spain, TDBG has expanded the capacity of its Madrid warehouse by 1900 sq m to accommodate increasing customer demand for logistics services such as storage, distribution and pick and pack.

The new warehouse takes the total capacity in Madrid to 6500 sq m, 85 per cent of which is fully-equipped and devoted to logistics with the remainder used for cross-docking.

Meanwhile, the Barcelona branch is the initial hub for the new, weekly each-way groupage lane between Spain and Poland.

Launched in May, the service provides faster and cheaper transit than the previous indirect route.

There are already plans to open a direct service between Transmec’s hub in Tychy, southern Poland, and Madrid by the end of the year.

“There are lots of exciting developments for the Group in Spain,” said Alberto Loeches, managing director of TDBG Spain.

“These have been well received by customers who have already taken up 80 per cent of the new warehouse capacity and there has been an enthusiastic response to the new office and the groupage service.”

TDBG Spain already operates direct groupage services to nine countries including daily connections with Portugal, France, Italy and the Netherlands.

Twice-weekly road services run to and from the UK, Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium and Romania.
