Transmec UK wins top freight network award

One of more than 90 UPN members nationwide, Transmec’s Redditch branch was named depot of the year at the recent UPN awards ceremony and received a platinum award for service, the highest level available.

“We’re very proud to be recognised, particularly as depot of the year because it’s an award that’s voted for by all the UPN members,” said Phil Thomas, UK sales manager.

“What’s also great is that it shows how our partnership with UPN is working really well for everyone, including our customers.”

Transmec is moving record freight volumes, with around 1,450 pallets per week currently distributed for customers via UPN, which operates a ‘hub and spoke’ distribution system from its base at Lichfield, Staffordshire.

As well as making local collections and deliveries, Transmec is a European partner for UPN, delivering to Italy, Spain, Romania and Greece on behalf of the network.

UPN’s managing director, David Brown, described Transmec as a “true global service provider”, adding: “In the UK, where they have four strategic sites, they have a professionally and fully-focused super-strong management team. Providing ‘first class travel for palletised freight’, UPN invests heavily in new technology to maintain its competitive edge, raise service levels, and to drive forward its green credentials.

Customer have ongoing visibility of all their freight through an advanced online system which includes booking, track and trace and real-time live signature capture.

Operations will be enhanced with the opening of a new central hub, near its current base, in spring 2020.

The move will increase its capacity and provide an operational throughput of more than 11,500 pallets per night.
