Transmec’s Italy fleet gains TAPA security award

Transmec’s continuing focus on freight security has been rewarded with fresh recognition.

The Group’s entire Italy fleet is the latest to be certificated by TAPA (the Transport Asset Protection Association).

All Italy-based freight transport operations are covered by the award, including the Group’s two logistics divisions – Transmec Log, which specialises in industrial logistics, and Transmec To Be, which is dedicated to the grocery sector.

The recognition for Transmec Italy, which has branches in eight cities, follows TAPA approval for the Group’s Romania-based international fleet in autumn 2017. More than 650 trailers and 80 trucks are now covered by the two certifications.

Marco Barozzi, Europe Quality Manager, said: “Security has always been a priority for Transmec and we’re delighted that another key part of the Group has been approved by TAPA.

“However, we can assure our customers that things certainly won’t stop there - we’ll continue to implement the latest and best security practices and seek further certification.”

TAPA approval requires Transmec to demonstrate its anti-theft focus in wide-ranging areas including use of GPS tracking and other security technology, following planned routes, only parking in secure areas and maintaining vehicles in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications.

Meeting the standard also requires fully-documented security procedures and the use of security-trained drivers with a clean criminal record.

Run on a not-for-profit basis, TAPA operates globally and its mission is to minimise cargo losses from the supply chain.

Its vision is an international supply chain where controlled and traceable products can be transported in a cost efficient and secure environment.
