Streamlining customs clearance

Based in central Birmingham, the department manages Transmec’s global freight movements and all customs clearance to non-EU destinations.

And if customs clearance is required for ongoing trade with the EU after Brexit, the experienced team is ready to take charge of the process:

• New software which links directly to the Government’s new Customs Declaration Service (CDS) system is up and running.

• It has also gained full Authorised Economic Operator status (AEOF), a quality mark that shows Transmec’s security and compliance with EU customs processes. The award follows a rigorous assessment process.

Both developments will help to streamline customs clearance and reduce checks and delays. AEOF status, in particular, will enable Transmec to provide a comprehensive range of customs-related services.

"Customs clearance is new for a lot of people, but it’s something we handle day-in, day-out,” said overseas division manager, Ian Davis.

“And should be it needed post Brexit, we’re fully prepared and will make things as simple as possible for our customers. Many are already benefiting from our new software.”

The division manages all types of cargo, including ro-ro, break bulk and specialist equipment.

“We’re also in an ideal position to help UK companies look beyond the EU and begin to trade globally,” added Ian, a customs clearance expert with more than 30 years’ experience.

“We’ve an in-depth understanding of the different customs regimes in place around the world and have a network of local shipping agents to manage the overland delivery from or to the port.”

Help in loading shipping containers can be provided by Transmec’s depot network and additional peace of mind is offered through low-cost, all-risk marine insurance.
