Preparing for Brexit with full AEO status
Transmec UK has been awarded full Authorised Economic Operator (AEOF) status as part of the Group’s plans to continue the smooth and secure passage of freight after Brexit.
AEO status is a globally-recognised quality mark that shows compliance with EU customs duty processes and documentation, thereby encouraging customs officials to give faster clearance on goods.
AEOF also speeds up authorisation by demonstrating that Transmec meets strict safety and security criteria.
With Transmec deemed to be a lower risk than non-authorised carriers, it is likely to reduce the frequency of customs checks. It also means that Transmec can apply for freight to be cleared locally, away from busy ports.
“Whilst the impact of Brexit is still uncertain, full AEO status demonstrates that we’re able to provide maximum support for all customers involved in UK trade,” explained John Simkins, Transmec UK’s general manager.
“It’s also important to note that we can arrange all customs documentation even if we’re not transporting the goods.”
To complement the UK award, Transmec is also applying for AEO status for its companies in Italy and Romania.
Further Brexit-related plans will see Transmec UK expand its overseas department based in Birmingham. The existing team has many years’ experience of clearing customs for shipments to and from non EU territories.
Warehouse space is also being made available for importers wishing to avoid any risk of disruption at ports by storing additional goods in the UK.
