Planning next steps after latest intermodal launch

Transmec is already planning ahead following the successful launch of its latest intermodal service.

Running between Transmec’s privately-owned terminal at Oradea, Romania, and Lodz in central Poland, the 48-hour service is run in partnership with P&O Ferrymasters.

Currently offering two departures each way per week, a third is set to be introduced by mid-2020.

The Oradea hub is owned by Transmec and P&O Ferrymasters who already operate joint connections between Oradea and Zeebrugge in Belgium and Piacenza Italy, with Transmec also running its own service between northern Italy and Zeebrugge.

Proposals to introduce a joint service between Oradea and Constanta on Romania’s Black Sea coast are now being considered.

This would provide links into Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece and Turkey, thereby making the network one of the most expansive in Europe and Eurasia.

Danilo Montecchi, CEO of Transmec Group, said: “The new service between Oradea and Lodz forms part of our highly successful collaboration with P&O Ferrymasters over the last 30 years. We are already planning our next steps, while also focusing on the ongoing development of our existing intermodal services.

“We’ve invested heavily in the terminal at Oradea and it’s now a superb facility that provides a price-competitive and eco-friendly gateway to important growth markets.”
