New branch for Transmec Ro as growth continues

Transmec’s expanding operations in Romania have led to the opening of a fifth branch as services from China and North Africa contribute to ongoing growth.

Located in the central city of Sibiu, the new office will manage the customer demand which is driving Transmec Ro’s expansion.

The intermodal service from China has proved increasingly attractive to clients, particularly those operating in the automotive and manufacturing sectors.

“It’s a very reliable alternative to sea freight. The hub-to-hub transit time is 14 days and we are very competitive in terms of the price and quality of the service,” explained global account manager, Carmen Sandhu.

“Whilst we use several rail terminals from China, the main one is Xi'an. Groupage is a speciality and goods are customs cleared before being consolidated into 40-feet containers in the terminal. Freight arrives in Romania via Poland.”

The multimodal lane from Tunis was launched in 2021 for a major automotive customer. Service begins with collection from suppliers in Tunis. Trucks then travel via ferry to Genoa or Livorno in Italy.

Goods are then transhipped into an EU trailer with an option to continue to Romania via Transmec’s rail service, or via road, depending on customer needs.
