Jamie runs for ‘fantastic’ hospital
A Transmec UK employee who has recovered from a brain tumour has run a half marathon to raise funds for the hospital that saved his life.
Jamie O’Brien, a logistics coordinator at the Redditch branch, took part in the Great Birmingham Run on October 14 in aid of the city’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital Charity.
Having been diagnosed in October 2016, the tumour was removed in early 2017 – a month before the birth of his son Jaiden.
Since then, Jamie has received a full programme of after-care at the QE, including MRI scans, tests and check-ups.
“I owe so much so the fantastic staff at this hospital. They saved my life and have provided amazing care and support. I just wanted to give something back,” he said.
Jamie completed the run in an impressive time of 1 hour 46 minutes.
Generous donations from his Transmec colleagues helped him to smash his initial fundraising target of £500 and he’s now raised more than £1,400.
