He did it! Transmec manager rides 320 miles for charity

Transmec’s Bradford depot manager Paul Priestley was tired but exhilarated after completing an epic 320-mile cycle ride in just three days.

Raising money for Children with Cancer UK and Special Olympics Redditch, on day one Paul rode 140 miles (227km) from his home depot to Transmec’s Redditch branch.

Colleagues from Redditch turned out on a Sunday evening to ensure he received a warm welcome after 13 hours in the saddle.

And they were joined by members of Special Olympics Redditch, which provides sporting opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.

The following day he recovered by making the 40-mile round trip to Transmec’s new warehouse at Worcester.

He then made the return trip to Bradford, contending with heavy rain during the final few hours.

Paul has already raised more than £1,250 and donations are still coming in.

“It was definitely challenging but very satisfying. The support I’ve received from family, friends, colleagues and customers has been amazing,” he said.

“I felt exhausted after the first leg but recovered with a shorter ride the following day and I was surprised how fresh I felt at the start of the trip back to Yorkshire.”

The route between Bradford and Redditch saw him navigate his way through the picturesque, but hilly, Peak District National Park, through Staffordshire and around Wolverhampton.

Paul described arriving back in Yorkshire via the high moorland of Holme Moss as a “special feeling”.

He added: “Even more exhilarating was checking my mails and sponsorship after finishing. Everyone has been so supportive and the money raised is beyond all of my expectations.

“I feel truly humbled by the amount of financial support for our chosen charities and cannot think of enough words to express my thanks to all.”
