Developing a “strong partnership” with UPN

Transmec’s membership of the United Pallet Network (UPN) is helping it to manage growing UK freight volumes.

Around 1,200 pallets per week are currently distributed for Transmec customers via UPN which operates a ‘hub and spoke’ system from its base at Lichfield, Staffordshire.

One of more than 90 UPN member haulage companies, Transmec is also a European partner - delivering to Italy, Spain, Romania and Greece on behalf of the network.

Transmec’s contribution was recognised at the recent UPN awards ceremony where it was awarded gold status for its high levels of service and was named runner-up in the depot of the year, an award voted for by members.

Both Transmec and UPN agree that a “strong partnership” is in place.

Phil Thomas, Transmec’s UK sales manager said: “We’re moving record volumes for our customers and the network is vital in enabling us to manage this increase, particularly around the Worcester area where we opened our fourth UK branch last year," he said.

“At the same time we’re pulling out the stops to help UPN and its members to meet their requirements. We’re very proud to receive recognition from UPN members as it proves we’re taking the right approach.”

Andrew Spencer, UPN’s regional director, said: “Through an excellent working relationship across both businesses, Transmec and UPN are evolving an excellent team ethos which is helping to significantly grow palletised freight business with key clients.”

UPN has established a strong position in the pallet network sector through its ‘Unique IQ’ which focuses on service excellence underpinned by cutting-edge IT.

The UPN network is served by an advanced web-based performance monitoring system which provides customers with clear on-going visibility of all freight movements.

Clients also have access to an online customer booking system, a track and trace facility and real-time live signature capture.
