Award-winning, eco-friendly students helped on their way by Transmec

Transmec has helped a team of Italian students to win first prize in a prestigious international competition for eco-friendly vehicles.

Team ‘Zero C’ from the Leonardo da Vinci Institute in Carpi, Modena, scooped the award in the prototype category for battery-electric vehicles.

The competition was held at London’s Olympic Park and Transmec supported the youngsters by transporting their car to and from the UK.

Students from across the world participated in the competition which involved designing, building, testing and, finally, driving energy-efficient vehicles.

Racing cars run a fixed number of laps around the circuit at a set speed – the winner is the one with the highest energy efficiency.

A great result of 753 Km/KWh enabled the Italian team to overcome a strong challenge from their Spanish counterparts.

Run by Shell, the eco-marathon is an important competition that inspires future engineers towards a vision of sustainable mobility and also furthers the debate about what one day could be achieved for road cars.
